Loss as an Invitation for Future

Soft Eis Issue 03: Loss, 2023.
‘Loss as an invitation for Future’ reflects on the role of memory and preservation in architecture as a means of remermeging the ‘old’ into the contemporary moment of what could be ‘new’. Through looking at vernacular forms of design and the various techniques they hold, we proposed the possibility of recovering the ancient imagination that presented design beyond material. Design was historical reverence, communal gathering, storytelling, and earthly sustainability. Through this lens, we discuss loss as an opening–a platform for design–where to build is also to remember in a way that we can conceptualize how to create sustainable structures that work in harmony with each other, communities, and the Earth.

“What does it mean to pave a future without a recognition of what was lost?”
